End Of Year Reflection

This year I learned many skills in technology, collaboration, communication, project management, and leadership. Through trial and error I've developed my skill set and that will lead me into the real world. I am grateful for the experienced that I've had this year and will forever treasure the memories that I've made.

In technological aspect of e-Comm I've learned many things from how to set up for games, conducting interviews, and running the switcher. In the many hours I've spent setting up for games I learned how to set up the mixer, run cables, and set up cameras. After conducting interviews I've refined my interview process and learned how to shape an interview to have the person say exactly what you want them to say. At a few basketball games I ran the switcher and learned a little about the game of basketball. All of the technological things I learned this year I had to teach myself through trial and error. Never was I taught how to do these things, I just had to figure it out on my own.

While working with partners I learned valuable communication skills. It is important to know how to communicate with others so that things can be done efficiently without any mistakes. I faced a few challenges when working in partnerships mostly with communication and knowing where and when to be places. It is important to possess communication skills so that no details are left out and the task can be executed in a quality manner.

Two things I struggled with this year were Project Management and Leadership. I met deadlines and my projects were done very well however I often spent time socializing rather than working. Something I will work on if finding a balance between work and play.

My greatest strength include voice, attention to detail, and ability to work with anyone. I feel that I have always had a good voice for on camera, however, this year has really opened my eyes to the importance of tone and presence. In creating a news package I pay very close attention to details like nat noise and transition. I am a very friendly, sometimes sassy person, and I can work with anyone. Obviously my first choice was always Sydney but I broadened my horizons and reached out to other people. With that I became very talkative and often got distracted from my work, that would defiantly be my biggest weakness.

With what I've learned I'm going to refine my creative process and set deadlines for myself. Next year I'm going to work on talking less and working more. I am going to take a different approach of finding stories because whatever I'm doing now is obviously not working. I will do more stories outside of school and push myself outside of my comfort zone.

If there could be one thing I would change it would be more instruction. I was never taught how to find stories, do stand ups, and write voice over. During our critiques I, along with many others, was critiqued on those things but was never told how to fix it. I want to be able to fix them but I just don't know how.

Overall this year I've learned many important skills and lessons that I will apply to things other than this class. I had a wonderful year and enjoyed every moment, good or bad. Junior year has lead me to my best friend and some really cool people I enjoy hanging out with. I will forever treasure the memories I made and the memories yet to come.  Thank You and peace out junior year!
